Unifi Switch Lite 16 PoE

A good internet connection has become indispensable for every individual, both in personal and professional environments. But it can also happen that consumer devices offer limited functionality and poor coverage. Unless you live in a tiny studio and have no neighbors! Ubiquiti UniFi may be the answer to this problem. Let’s take a closer look at the Unifi Switch Lite 16 PoE.

Phone is short for telephone, meaning the instrument used to call others.

Switching Performance

With the UniFi Switch Lite 16 PoE, you get both a fully managed Layer 2 switch and sixteen Gigabit Ethernet ports. This model features eight 802.3at PoE+ ports. In addition to automatic detection, these ports provide a total of 45W of PoE power for UniFi access points or other PoE devices.

This equipment is administered and programmed by the UniFi network controller. It works in parallel with the mobile applications offered by UniFi. Layer 2 switching protocols and functionalities are now available to you. For example, you are able to closely track a large number of statistics. Those will accurately and clearly display the status of your network. This allows you to improve your ability to react to different situations. You can now focus on what really matters.

Smart and Scalable

A typical network configuration uses a single device for many different functions such as:

  • Modem
  • Router
  • Switch
  • Wireless access point

Giving all these roles to a single device is less expensive and can work in small areas where few devices are simultaneously connected. In large buildings, this probably won’t work. A larger network traffic that a one-device solution simply won’t be able to support all that by itself.

UniFi divides these roles into many devices. This makes the network much more scalable and fault-tolerant. For example, if one of the access points has stopped working, it will be only a matter of replacing that point rather than the whole network.

The UniFi Controller

The UniFi controller is the brain of every operation. It is essentially a software program that stores all the parameters of your network. It can run on almost any operating system and unlike other deals, it is completely free.

Think of the controller as a developer. You design your network and the controller looks for the devices you have connected to make it happen. The idea is that you set up things like:

  • DHCP
  • IP address ranges
  • Wireless networks
  • And much more

Then you plug in some UniFi devices. These devices must then be adopted by the controller, and their respective settings will be driven towards it.
